Food aid
At certain times, especially during the dry season, families find themselves in great difficulty with food. We occasionally participate in the distribution of food parcels with the partnership of the “La Bonne Nouvelle” association.
Aid material
We support the "Cité de l'Emmanuel de Nianing" nursery that we were able to attend not only by donations of clothes but also those of infant formula and diapers . This work accommodates about forty 0 to 18 months regardless of gender or religion. Very often motherless at birth, whose mother is ill or abandoned.
The goal is the protection and care of these little ones in their first days with the goal at the end of the stay of returning to a foster or adoptive family; considering that the best place for the child is within the framework of a family (reintegration and follow-up).
Since our beginnings, we have received many donations of clothes, linens, various materials in France, and we were looking for a way to be able to send them to disadvantaged families in Senegal. We thought we could do it by sending a single container, but it turned out to be more complicated than expected. We have therefore found a practical and safe formula with the company Marseille Bagages, which has been working for more than twenty years with Senegal for imports and with associations. Through the purchase of cubic meters, we were able to send more than 20 m3 between 2019 and 2021.
The boxes are taken care of at the headquarters of the association in France, bound for the port of Marseilles where they are embarked for Senegal at the rate of approximately three weeks of travel. Then, they are cleared through customs and sent to the association's depot in Senegal in order to be distributed by us. Giving a piece of clothing costs nothing but sending it at a price (about 350 euros per cubic meter)
The village of Roff, located 70 kilometers south of Dakar, experiences some difficulties in accessing water during the dry season, which lasts between 9 and 10 months. In collaboration with the Good News Christian Association, we have able to renovate Roff's well which was in poor condition and we have established a pulley to facilitate the drawing. We We also dug a well in another village and built a basin and a drinking trough there.
Schooling assistance
The population in Senegal is young compared to France. 50% of the inhabitants are under 18 years old, 75% are under 30 years old. On the other hand, it is sad to note that the official literacy rate stands at 36%. In elementary school, current enrollment is 68%, while in secondary school it is only 11%.
The Senegalese education system is structured in 4 cycles, 2 of which are compulsory:
Preschool: 1 year minimum between 5 and 6 years old
Elementary: 6 years between 6 and 11 years old
Medium: 4 years between 12 and 15 years old
secondary: 3 years between 16 and 18 years old. .
The village of Roff has two schools containing a kindergarten which welcomes about twenty children and a school for older CP with about 150 students.
There are several important needs to be filled in this area. We were able to send school materials and reading books . We also contributed to the creation of a library .
Help with health
The price of health is high in Senegal to such an extent that the cost of care prevents many people from being able to benefit from the necessary care. The health post provides emergency first aid for rural populations and serves as a local maternity ward. In Roff, the health post is run by a midwife.
Following a medical collection, we were able to send equipment to Roff. We also installed solar panels .
